An agreement has been made between H2V and Vallourec over the installation of Vallourec’s hydrogen storage system

At the Hyvolution 2024 event, Vallourec and H2V agreed to work together on a new project, focused on the integration of the new Delphy hydrogen storage solution, developed by Vallourec.

This storage system, created by Vallourec, is a large-scale, vertical hydrogen storage solution, which has been designed to be capable of holding a maximum of one hundred tons of hydrogen in a gaseous state. The storage solution is also designed to hold the hydrogen under maximum safety conditions.

The signing of this agreement around this project at Hyvolution, will ensure that the integration of Vallourec’s Delphy solution into H2V’s green hydrogen projects will go ahead. H2V’s green hydrogen projects are currently under development in Marseille and the integration will therefore take place once the green hydrogen projects are ready to receive the storage system.

Senior Vice-President, Energy Transition at Vallourec, Ulrika Wising, commented, “We will work together to develop the hydrogen value chain here in France, in Belgium and in the UK. H2V is one of the most advanced players in the hydrogen value chain in France, with the most advanced projects, and we want to accelerate as quickly as we can so we want to work with the leaders.” She added, “From a technological perspective, we are okay, it’s more the financing part.”

Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO at Vallourec, Philippe Guillemot, mentioned, “This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) demonstrates Vallourec’s determination to use its expertise to help build a cutting-edge hydrogen industry.”

Managing Director of H2V, Alexis Martinex, added, “I am delighted with the future potential of this agreement, which is designed to address electricity supply constraints. Being able to stockpile hydrogen with Delphy will enable us to implement a more flexible supply system.”

Wising also said, “We’re working with many developers in the hydrogen value chain today to deploy the solution. As known, there are very few projects that have taken financial investment decision (FID), so we’re waiting for the first one. First, we will build our demonstrator, with one installation built in northern France.”
