Avina makes progress on new Californian hydrogen production and refuelling facility

The process of creating a green hydrogen production and refuelling facility within the US, specifically southern California, has been started by Avina Clean Hydrogen.

So far, both the City of Vernon and FASTECH have provided support to Avina throughout the development, construction and commissioning of the facility. This facility is conveniently located only ten miles from the Port of Long Beach.

Moreover, it has been suggested that the facility is expected to produce an estimated 1,400 tonnes of compressed hydrogen on an annual basis once the facility is operational. The overall purpose of this facility, is to serve the state’s transportation industry. It was back in September that the US-based firm secured the necessary permits in order to begin construction.

Now that there are key environmental permits in place, the facility is currently on schedule to commence construction and from there, it will be ready to begin commercial operations in July of 2025.

The firm’s Founder and CEO,  Vishal Shah, spoke about how the plant’s strategic location allows Avina to “serve critical transportation corridors and urban markets,” and this could help to “meet the growing demands for clean hydrogen across the region.”

CEO of California Hydrogen Business Council, Katrina Fritz, mentioned, “This facility will serve the expanding end uses of hydrogen in California, such as zero-emission trucks and buses and distributed power generation to decarbonise and improve air quality in our local communities.”
