EverWind’s Canadian-produced hydrogen will be imported to the Port of Rotterdam

EverWind Fuels and the Port of Rotterdam recently signed an agreement, which stated that through the use of green hydrogen, both companies would work towards establishing an international hub.

These goals include the Port of Rotterdam having plans to create an international hub for hydrogen production, import, application and finally, transport  to places such as other countries within Northwest Europe. To do this, the Port of Rotterdam will use EverWind’s projects in Atlantic Canada for support with this.

This plan has been underway for a little while and it was in February of 2023 that EverWind was granted permission for its project in Nova Scotia, Canada. Alongside this, more recently, the current collaboration completed a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production facility, which is based in North America.

Currently three times the amount of energy is now transported through Rotterdam, in comparison to how much is consumed within the whole of the Netherlands. This has led to expectations of importing eighteen million tonnes of hydrogen via the Port in 2050.

CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Boudewijn Siemons, commented, “Rotterdam has been a trusted hub for decades. It is now ready and able to make the switch to hydrogen, and we are excited for EverWind’s green hydrogen and green ammonia production to be among the first volumes from North America to land in Europe.”

Founder and CEO of EverWind Fuels, Trent Vichie, mentioned, “We’re confident that our projects in Atlantic Canada will produce the greenest, most cost-competitive green hydrogen in North America to decarbonise carbon-intensive processes domestically and abroad.”
