Five hundred hydrogen-powered lighting towers have been created by TCP

A recent breakthrough within the hydrogen industry has occurred, in the form of TCP Group producing five hundred fuel cell mobile lighting towers. There have not only been created, but are also at the point at which they are available to hire, along with the support of a fully managed service.

The technology which TCP has created is called the TCP Ecolite TH200 solution and its purpose is to benefit large infrastructure projects within the UK and help them to develop and progress. This was the aim of the company around their development as stated by Operations and Development Director at TCP Group, Jim Irvine.

It was in 2015 that Costain used TCP’s product within its Cross Rail project, plus the invention was also used within the HS2 project. Earlier in 2010, TCP created a partnership with BOC and throughout this the companies worked together with the aim of replacing diesel fuel with hydrogen fuel cells, when it came to lighting tower solutions. Whilst the technology is zero-emissions, it also features prismalence lenses, which lead to controlled light distribution, as well as low glare and good visibility.

Irvine commented, “This temporary lighting solution is the number one choice, as they are silent running, no spill risk and zero-emission at point of use.”

Sales Director at TCP Group, Joe Ambor, added, “As a company faithful to recycling where possible, we have remanufactured hundreds of our diesel-powered lighting towers to use hydrogen fuel cells and gas cylinders. Our added value is to provide a fully managed gas service. Gas usage is monitored remotely and when a hydrogen gas cylinder needs exchanging, the TCP team make arrangements with the customer to replace the empty cylinder with a full one and then take the empty one away.”
