A four-year framework deal for Finland’s hydrogen pipeline has been secured by Worley

Gasgrid Finland Oy has awarded Worley a four-year framework agreement for Owner’s Engineering services. This agreement is valid for the company’s planned hydrogen pipeline project.

Within this agreement, it has been arranged that the Australian engineering company will be responsible for providing front-end engineering and design (FEED). These services will be suitable for Finland’s hydrogen pipeline system until 2028, from there it has been agreed it will be possible to access an extension up to 2032. Plus, this will also become part of a larger project, which will ultimately connect Finland, Sweden and finally, the Baltic Sea region.

It was back in November when Gasgrid Finland chose to select StreamTec Solutions (STS) to be their Owners Engineer partner and this decision was made in regard to the Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector (BHC) and Nordic-Baltic Hydrogen Corridor (NBHC). This agreement was also made with a four-year contract.

The expectation for these two agreements, is that the roles played by STS and Worley will work well together and complement each other. This will be especially evident and effective throughout the different phases of the planned hydrogen infrastructure projects.

So far, it has been made clear that STS will be predominantly responsible for providing engineering and project management support for the project as a whole. On the other hand, Worley will be responsible for ensuring that the essential detailed engineering and the required design work is conducted and implemented effectively.

The agreement states that Worley will, “support and advise Gasgrid to ensure the engineering and construction of the onshore pipeline projects.”

Senior Vice-President of Infrastructure Projects at Gasgrid, Esa Hallivuori, mentioned that the company ‘aims to boost Finland’s hydrogen economy by attracting high-value investments, expanding exports and strengthening the technology and service sectors.’

Hallivuori commented, “With the cooperation of Worley, Gasgrid envisions a long-term partnership to enable strategic project development and infrastructure investment.”
