German Utility to Build Hydrogen Production Plant in Port of Rotterdam
Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands has announced that German energy provider Onyx Power plans to build a low-carbon blue hydrogen production plant at its existing site at the port.
The 1,200 MW capacity plant is slated to produce 300 kilotonnes of blue hydrogen annually. The CO2 emitted while producing hydrogen will be captured and stored in depleted offshore gas fields. The Rotterdam Port said 2.5 million tonnes of CO2 could be saved annually in the process.
To be able to start the project, Onyx Power announced to the responsible Environmental Protection Agency (DCMR) to carry out an environmental impact assessment in accordance with the Environmental Management Act.
