A brand new hydrogen refuelling station has been opened by the Port of Gothenburg, which will supply 1,500kg-per-day. The purpose of this station is to provide a place that exclusively refuels heavy-duty trucks with green hydrogen.

This innovative station is due to be situated at the entrance to the port’s RoRo (roll-on, roll-off) terminal at Gate 6. The company has selected this location because the access road which leads up to the gate is supposedly one of Sweden’s ‘most heavily trafficked roads.’ The statistics around this idea have shown that there are often an estimated 400,000 heavy vehicles passing through every year. Plus, it is predicted that an even heavier volume of traffic will be passing through this area now that Stena Line, the shipping firm will be relocating it German and Danish terminals adjacent to the RoRo terminal.

The excellent new station will be operated by Nilsson Energy, which is now known as Hydri and the station will have both 700 and 350 bar dispensing available. The station will also have the capacity to supply 1,500kg of hydrogen on a daily basis and this means that the station will be able to provide fuel to an estimated thirty-five trucks every day.

Port of Gothenburg’s Head of Innovation, Viktor Allgurén, commented, “The large flow of trucks to the port and the possibility to refuel work machinery make the location for this hydrogen refuelling station ideal. Combined with several existing charging stations around the port, heavy land transport at the Port of Gothenburg is now fully ready for a transition to both electricity and hydrogen.”
