HYTING and ebm-papst collaborate over hydrogen heat generators

A brand-new strategic partnership has been established between start-up company HYTING and ebm-papst. This partnership was created with the intention of creating and developing hydrogen-fuel heat generators.

The concept of this project was proposed by HYTING and it revolves around a simplistic, safe and efficient method for generating heat directly from hydrogen. However a kay part of this process, is HYTING’s aim to accomplish without the need for combustion.

Within this partnership, both companies will supply their own skills and expertise and on ebm-papst’s side, this will involve using their multitude of experience when it comes to infrastructure. This is desirable within the project as it can be useful for accelerating the development and market launch of HYTING’s heat generator portfolio. So far, the heating technology company has spent years conducting research in the field of hydrogen and one of the locations they have been using for this, is their in-house hydrogen laboratory, which is based at its Landshut facility.

HYTING has been able to create a forced-air heating system (patents pending) which runs on a distinct catalytic process that will enable hydrogen and oxygen from the air to transform into heat. The purpose of the catalyst is to act as a reaction accelerator and this is important because whilst a different system would rely on hydrogen combustion to create heat, this system, produced by HYTING, does not produce anyNOx or other kind of emissions. The technology has been developed in a way which means that the only by-product is water and on top of this, the system does not use flammable concentrations of hydrogen at any time throughout its operations.

It is already clear that this innovative system is both modular and highly scalable in design, plus it had outputs of 10-300 kW, which make it possible for the system to be configured for a variety of heating applications. These applications could include commercial and residential building, or even heating systems for commercial vehicles.

Furthermore, it has been stated that the company’s gas products are certified for the admixture of hydrogen, plus they are also compatible with the HYTING heat generator. In the near future ebm-papst plans to manufacture the HYTING heat generator at its production facilities.

The next step for this project is to produce prototypes and right now they are undergoing testing. It has been announced that the first customer trials will be held in Germany and this will take place by the first quarter of 2025.

Founder and Managing Director of HYTING, Tim Hannig, commented, “ebm-papst’s knowledge, skillset, experience and infrastructure massively accelerate and de-risk our time to market.”

CEO of Heating Technology at ebm-papst, Dr. Hannes Säubert, added, “We see great potential in HYTING’s innovative technology … this is in line with our multi-technology approach in heating technology.”
