Innovative hydrogen-powered passenger car concept launched by Renault
The new hydrogen-electric concept vehicle, which was designed by Renault Group, has been revealed. This groundbreaking vehicle has been created with the ability to achieve a range of 620 miles.
The new concept vehicle is called the Reneault Embléme demo car and it forms part of the French manufacturing firm’s decarbonisation strategy. This means that this particular car is dedicated to targeting carbon neutrality in Europe by 2040 and then worldwide by 2050.
In order to make this possible, the vehicle includes a 40kWh battery, which is placed beneath the floor and it also holds a 2.8kg hydrogen fuel cell in the front. This fuel cell is what is used to power its 215hp motor.
It has been made clear that the plan for this car is that it will emit 90% less carbon dioxide throughout its entire lifecycle, in comparison to a current equivalent. At the moment, the aim for this new development, is to achieve a 70% reduction when it comes to the carbon footprint of its components. This means that the car would use 50% recycled materials and almost all of these would be designed so that they can be recycled at the end of the vehicle’s life.
Ampre, the European specialist in intelligent electric vehicles, has agreed to ‘spearhead’ the group’s decarbonisation drive.
CEO of Renault Group and CEO at Ampere, Luca de Meo, commented, “Embléme embodies our ecosystem approach and the level of our ambition when it comes to building a sustainable future through technological innovation. It is proof that automotive is still driving progress – keeping emotion in the equation. An average internal combustion engine (ICE) has a 50-tonne footprint. For Embléme, it’s 5 tonnes, cradle to grave. It’s a masterpiece.”
