Land in Northern California has been secured for a hydrogen refuelling station by Nikola

Nikola has recently secured a new location for a hydrogen refuelling station in northern California. The company has made the decision to acquire this land, as it is currently focusing on connecting users with the south of the state.

The aim for the first phase of development, is to make the station, which will be based at 917 Stillwater Rd., capable of fuelling a maximum of twenty Class 8 trucks daily. This location, which is in West Sacramento, will have a compact, high-pressure refueller, which will come from the truck OEM’s infrastructure brand, Hyla.

Through the use of a mobile refueller model, Hyla is able to offer 700 bar hydrogen, which is ideal for heavy-duty trucks that are coupled with 960kg of tube trailer storage.

This development is a large step forwards for the company, as it will be the firm’s first official Hyla station to be based in northern California. Plus, on top of this, the new development will join its two existing stations which are in Ontario and Santa Fe Springs.

Nikola has revealed that the next steps to the company’s plan is to add refuelling along the north-south I-5 freight corridor, which runs through California, Oregon and finally, Washington.

Nikola’s President of Energy, Ole Hoefelmann, commented, “West Sacramento marks a significant milestone for Nikola and offers convenient access for our fleet customers based in West Sacramento and its surrounding areas.

California State Senator, Christopher Cabaldon, mentioned that, ‘the new refuelling station would help accelerate the adoption of zero-emission trucks in the state.’
