A Nikola hydrogen truck has been supplied by Purina for Californian deliveries
Deliveries throughout California for Nestlé Purina PetCare, will now be performed by a hydrogen-powered truck provided by Nikola.
This truck will have an estimated range of 500 miles and it will be The Kenan Advantage Group (KAG) that use the truck in order to deliver the products across the state. All of this is being done, in order to help Purina reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
To begin with, whilst collaborating with KAG and Nikola, the pet food firm was using the Class 8 fuel cell truck to transport Purina products between the cities of Stockton, Modesta and finally, Maricopa.
Making this change means that Purina has now made the leap and joined a variety of other major firms who are trialling the truck.
Furthermore, it was in July that Walmart Canada also introduced a Nikola hydrogen vehicle into its fleet. This event occurred in Ontario.
Senior Director of Supply Chain Operations at Purina, Travis Krous, commented, “This truck represents an exciting opportunity to test new technology and determine if it’s feasible to scale.”
Nikola’s President and CEO, Steve Girsky, mentioned, “We are proud to support Purina’s sustainability initiatives by supplying KAG with its first-ever hydrogen fuel cell electric Class 8 truck.”
It was earlier this year that the zero-emission truck firm stated that it had ‘sold 235 hydrogen trucks since the vehicle went on sale in Q4 2023, following expectations that the vehicle would outsell its battery-electric alternative by a factor of three.’
