Plans for 10MW green hydrogen plants have been made by Messer

Messer is an industrial gas major and they have recently created a 10MW green hydrogen plant, located in Germany, specifically Brainergy Park Jülich.

This plant will be operated by HyDN GmBH and the plant itself is a joint venture between the district Düren and Messer. The expectation of this plant, is for it to have an hourly production capacity of 180kg of hydrogen. This brilliant capacity will make it the ‘largest’ production facility within Germany.

Further to this, the plant will be scheduled to become operational in the fall of 2025 and it has been agreed that NEUMAN & ESSER will provide two electrolysers, that will be used to produce hydrogen. NUEMAN & ESSER will also provide the diaphragm compressor for pressurising the hydrogen.

All the hydrogen that is produced by this technology will go into use within fuel cell-powered buses. So far, five of these buses have already been put into use in Kreis Düren and these will be joined by a further twenty in November of 2024.

It has been agreed that the German Federal Ministry for Transport and digital Infrastructure (BMDV) will be funding the project with an estimated $16m. This company has agreed to do this as part of the National Innovation Programme Hydrogen 2 (NIP2).

COO Europe of Messer, Virginia Esly, commented, “We are involved in the engineering of the hydrogen production plant, will take over the long-term operation of the plant, and will distribute the green hydrogen. With this project, we are making an important contribution to climate protection by reducing environmentally harmful CO2 emissions.”
