Solaris has been awarded the French hydrogen-powered bus contract
It has now been agreed that the company, Solaris Bus & Coach, will supply Île-de-France Mobilités, which is Paris’ fleet operator, with twenty two Urbino hydrogen-powered buses.
Since this has been decided, Île-de-France Mobilités has launched a trial which will evaluate the potential of hydrogen technology and whether it would be suitable for the region’s transport system. This movement aligns with the initiatives and investments that have been undertaken since 2018, with the shared aim of renewing the entire bus fleet.
The plan in place is for the buses to be delivered by 2025, once Île-de-France Mobilités chooses to release a tender that encompasses the purchase and maintenance of twenty-two hydrogen buses.
This is not the first agreement that Solaris has been part of, as in 2023, the bus company received the largest order they have had, with one hundred and thirty hydrogen-powered buses being ordered from TPER, the Italian transport operator. It was also stated by the company that ‘44.5% of all hydrogen buses registered In Europe were Solaris vehicles.’
Once the contract was awarded, after the trial, a statement mentioned that this was all, “confirmation of the high quality of the product.”
Business Director for the French Market at Solaris, Brice Bonavia, commented on the project, saying it would “provide an excellent platform to demonstrate our capabilities in the field of electric mobility.”
