It has been announced that a UK music festival, Boomtown, taking place in 2025 will now be featuring a new stage, which will be powered entirely by hydrogen fuel cells.

So far, it is anticipated that this festival will attract an estimated 65,000 attendees and this festival has decided to collaborate with Hydrologiq. This partnership aims to make it possible to deliver the clean-powered stage through the use of the firm’s HydrologiqOS platform.

This excellent and innovative new project builds off a 2022 deployment which involved a single 100kVa EODev fuel cell generator. This generator is what powered Boomtown’s public transport hub.

Throughout the festival, the stage will utilise hydrogen fuel cell generators to provide the required power and this will require Hydrologiq to handle the installation. Managing the installation will involve remotely monitoring fuel levels, as well as organising compliant operations which are based on the ground.

Altogether, Boomtown has now confirmed that during the festival, which is due to be based in Hampshire between the 6th and the 10th of August, the ‘HYDRO stage will form a key part of the 2025 event.’

The festival’s co-founder and creative director, Luke Mitchell, spoke about the launch of the stage and stated that he was “unbelievably happy.”

Mitchell commented, “It’s been a real challenge to make this work, but unless we take these big leaps and think creatively, we won’t see the shift that’s so urgently needed. My hope is that this sparks momentum in the right direction – paving the way for temporary events to move towards a truly Net Zero future.”
