Altaf is a highly experienced marine engineer with more than 16 years in the maritime industry. Currently, he is working as a Principal engineer in the Energy Transition group- ABS Americas Technology department, where he plays a vital role in developing class requirements for emerging technologies such as onboard carbon capture systems and liquefied carbon dioxide carriers. In Altaf's prior role with the ABS Engineering department, he conducted plan reviews for a wide range of vessels, including LNG carriers, offshore supply vessels, yachts, high-speed crafts and barges. As a subject matter expert in ballast water treatment systems, Altaf helped clients get USCG Type Approval for their systems by collaborating closely with independent laboratories. He started his career at sea as a Marine Engineer, gaining valuable hands-on experience sailing on tankers before transitioning to shore-based engineering roles. Altaf holds both an MBA and a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering degree.
