Dean Vassalotti is the Chief Engineer for Piasecki’s Hydrogen Programs, including a $25M Air Force AFWERX contract to build and test a 700 kW aviation grade hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system and an internal research and development program of a co-axial helicopter retrofitted with high temperature hydrogen fuel cells to validate the technology readiness for manned flight. Dean began his career supporting the US Navy with work on the nuclear reactor cores for the Ohio and Los Angeles Class submarine fleet. He joined Piasecki over 7 years ago and has worked on numerous aerospace research and development programs including the DARPA ARES program and several light-weight autonomous cargo delivery unmanned aerial systems. Dean has spend the last 3 years advancing hydrogen propulsion and optimization to advance rotorcraft technology and is focused on the infrastructure and FAA requirements necessary to make hydrogen propulsion a reality for aviation.
